The People

The people from Salvador are, like the rest of the Brazilian nation, a mixed race, mainly Portuguese, Italian, German, African and the local Indians. So, what should you expect from this exotic mixture? A lovely people, full of happiness and warmth! Apparently this recipe worked very well, as the Brazilian are a very friendly and receptive people, especially in Salvador.

Activities

During the day Salvador offers a wide range of entertainment, the most popular being the various types of water sports: windsurfing, canoeing, surfboarding, banana boating and swimming, to mention just a few. Alternatively of course, you could just lie down and enjoy a flavoured tropical cocktail on one of the wonderful beaches.
When the night comes, you won't run out of option either. From a calm and romantic dinner in one of the many national and international restaurants, to hot shows and discos.

History

In the heart of the historic centre of Salvador, there is 'Pelourinho square'. During the first years of colonization it was a place where slaves were kept and in the centre of the square there was a whipping post for punishment.

Today Pelourinho is a important centre of our culture and history. It has been recently renovated, and it is one of the most beautiful post cards of Salvador. No longer being a place of suffer and sadness, Pelourinho today is full of life, entertainment and happiness. It receives millions of tourists every year, and the attention of many celebrities such as Paul Simon, Michael Jackson and Sting, who were attracted to Pelourinho probably by it's cultural richness and diversity in music and rhythm.

History

Salvador became the first capital of Brazil when it was discovered by the Portuguese in 1500. Since then, much has happened. Although no longer the capital, Salvador has grown to became one of the most important cities of Brazil..

It is still a place full of delight and magic. It's natural beauty brings millions of tourists every year, especially in February when the country holds one of the most famous parties in the world: the Brazilian Carnival. There is no doubt at all, Salvador is the hottest place to be if you really want to enjoy yourself (Hot tip: the people from Salvador are specialists when it comes to party matters).
